Activity of Special Interest Group(SIG)

JSET started to create Special Interest Groups in 2014,
with three keywords: Flexible, Open, and Accountable.JSET welcomes creation of new SIGs to maintain its flexibility.
SIGs are open, not only for all JSET members, but also with joint research activities with other academic organizations with simular interests.

  • SIG-AI

    Artificial Intelligence Application to Education

    Although the artificial intelligence (AI) technologies developed in recent years are being applied in various fields, the applications in education fields are just beginning. AI technologies have great practical potential, for example, for the optimal implementation of the user interface with online learning systems, etc. On the other hand, todayfs common overevaluation of current AI's, and imprecise understandings of what is realizable and where the limits and concerns about the AI technologies are, could impede the practical applications. Considering these aspects, our SIG aims to contribute to development of Educational Technology field.

    Collaborative learning and the learning sciences

    The area of collaborative learning and the learning sciences focuses on research to transform our learning into a better practice based on the philosophy that knowledge is socially constructed. Many researchers and practitioners worldwide actively contribute to related journals such as the International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (ijCSCL) and the Journal of the Learning Sciences (JLS) published by the International Society of the Learning Sciences. Yet, related research and its dissemination in Japan is not as active as other leading countries, and we need to change this situation.

    Instructional Design

    Instructional Design (ID) is defined as "a model or research field that comprehensively develops methods to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and appeal of educational activities, or a process that realizes a learning support environment by applying them" . Although it is a field that has been developed mainly in Europe and the United States, related books are increasing in Japan, and at this society research such as utilizing ID theory and model (e.g. ARCS model) has come to be seen. We welcome those who are enrolled in other SIGs and hope to apply ID in various fields.

    Media Literacy, Media Education

    In current modern society, the media environment is becoming complicated. Research on media literacy and media education to develop it has become more important than ever. Numerous individual studies on this research field were conducted and accumulated. However, opportunities to organically link these research results were limited. Therefore, we established this SIG to organize the past findings systematically, to accelerate individual studies, and to disseminate new results that can respond to contemporary issues.
